Event led by Suffolk County Sheriff’s Office and Valor Sports
(COPIAGUE, N.Y.) One hundred children took the field and enjoyed America’s pastime during a baseball clinic at Tanner Park in Copiague on Saturday, June 22, 2024. The free baseball clinic, sponsored by the Suffolk County Sheriff’s Foundation (SCSF), was hosted by Suffolk County Sheriff Errol D. Toulon, Jr. and members of the Suffolk County Sheriff’s Office. It was held in conjunction with Valor Sports.
Valor Sports provided the children, ranging in age from 7-13, with baseball equipment for the day. Children were introduced to the basics of baseball with two hours of lessons and drills with New York State Hall of Famer Lou Bernardi and members of the Suffolk Sheriff’s Office’s softball team.
Following the event, the Suffolk Sheriff’s Office held a BBQ lunch for participants to further increase bonds with law enforcement and the community.
The SCSF’s mission is to support community-based programming to reduce incidents of crime and recidivism, improve outcomes for at-risk individuals, and build positive relationships with members of law enforcement.
The SCSF works in tandem with the Suffolk County Sheriff’s Office. With more than three centuries of continuous service, the Suffolk County Sheriff’s Office is the oldest law enforcement in Suffolk County, N.Y., and has become known as one of the most innovative law enforcement agencies and correctional systems in the country.
