PLAINVIEW, NY (Sept. 7, 2022) The Suffolk County Sheriff’s Foundation and the Suffolk County Sheriff’s Office are proud to announce efforts to combine their work in order to build a stronger community.
The Suffolk County Sheriff’s Foundation’s mission is to support community-based programming to reduce incidents of crime and recidivism, improve outcomes for at-risk individuals, and build positive relationships with members of law enforcement.
This philosophy and approach of Suffolk County Sheriff Errol D. Toulon Jr. was the impetus for the birth of the Suffolk County Sheriff’s Foundation in 2020. Sheriff Toulon notes that the greatest opportunity for the Suffolk County Sheriff’s Office and the Suffolk County Sheriff’s Foundation is to have a positive impact on the community — especially its youth.
“The Sheriff’s Foundation will serve as launching pad to further our innovative programs that have been proven to improve outcomes for at-risk youth and reduce recidivism,” said Sheriff Toulon. “I look forward to this new venture which I think presents a unique opportunity to prevent crime and break the cycle of incarceration in order to create real change in our communities.”
The Suffolk County Sheriff’s Foundation places a strong focus on fundraising. It currently directs its fundraising efforts to support the following three funding initiatives:
The Community Investment Fund – Enhances public and community relations for the Suffolk County Sheriff’s Office by supporting educational and community outreach initiatives. These sponsored events build mutual respect and understanding between the community and the Sheriff’s Office.
The Inside-Out Fund – Provides funding for critical continuing staff education and training that will help improve public safety, foster greater accountability, and develop culturally responsive policing. It will also help fund Sheriff’s Office-sponsored sports teams to improve morale in the law enforcement community.
The Community Service Fund -Provides support to programming that helps children navigate their relationships with incarcerated parents and those who have been in county jail transition back into the community while lowering their chances of reoffending.
These three initiatives directly impact at-risk individuals while working to break the cycle of crime and incarceration.
