PLAINVIEW, NY (Nov. 22, 2022) – Nearly 450 local families received turkeys, gravy, stuffing, sides and even vitamin C supplements during the Suffolk County Sheriff’s Office’s 4th Annual Thanksgiving Food Drive.
Suffolk County Sheriff Errol Toulon Jr. and more than 15 members of the Sheriff’s Office helped distribute the Thanksgiving food at a drive-through event to preselected families at the Sheriff’s Transition and Reentry Team (S.T.A.R.T.) resource center offices in Yaphank, N.Y.
This year the Sheriff’s Office was able to gift more than double the amount of food as last year thanks to generous donations from Sheriff’s office partners including Long Island Cares, Caitlyn’s Vision, Compare Foods, United Way, EOC, Chubs Meats, Helping Makes You Happy, Salvation Army, Cross Country Mortgage, Axis Church, Harbor Church, Church on the Hill, Blessed Hope Church, Salvation Army, La Fiesta, Gino’s Pizzeria Ronkonkoma, Redefine Meals, Rudi’s Bar and Grill, and Maximum Logistics.
With more than three centuries of continuous service, the Suffolk County Sheriff’s Office is the oldest law enforcement in Suffolk County, N.Y., and has become known as one of the most innovative law enforcement agencies and correctional systems in the country.
This philosophy and approach of Toulon was the impetus for the birth of the Suffolk County Sheriff’s Foundation in 2020. The Suffolk County Sheriff’s Office combined its work with the Suffolk County Sheriff’s Foundation in order to build a stronger community.
The Suffolk County Sheriff’s Foundation’s mission is to support community-based programming to reduce incidents of crime and recidivism, improve outcomes for at-risk individuals, and build positive relationships with members of law enforcement.
Toulon notes that the greatest opportunity for the Suffolk County Sheriff’s Office and the Suffolk County Sheriff’s Foundation is to have a positive impact on the community — especially its youth.
